Trump at rally makes false claim on photo IDs for groceries

"Then Mr. Trump said, "You're fired".

"If you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID", he said at the event at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.

President Trump renewed a call Tuesday night for voter ID in the US, pointing to examples of Democrats pushing to allow non-citizens to vote. "We may have to do some pretty drastic things, but we're going to get it".

Later this week, Trump is scheduled to hold another rally in Luzerne County, Pa., in support of Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), who is seeking to unseat Sen.

While the reasons for the early arrivals are plentiful, many said they're there to show support for the president. Bill Nelson, who is being challenged by Trump ally Gov. Rick Scott in a high-profile Senate race.

Nearing the end of the rally, Trump implored his audience once more to vote in November, and may have referred to Greene, a Palm Beach billionaire and next-door neighbor to Trump's Florida residence - though the mention is vaguer than Gillum's.

Mr. Trump visited Florida to campaign for Rep. Ron DeSantis, who is running in the August 28 GOP primary for governor against former congressman and Florida agriculture commissioner Adam Putnam. During the 2016 Republican primaries, Trump defeated two home-state rivals - former governor Jeb Bush and Sen.

At a rally in Tampa, Trump praised DeSantis as "a tough, brilliant cookie" and predicted a win in his race against Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in the state's August 28 Republican primary. The president's son, Donald Trump Jr., has already campaigned for DeSantis, a member of the hard-line conservative House Freedom Caucus. He has a 41 percent approval rating among all Florida voters.

"The time has come for voter ID, like everything else", the president told supporters, "voter ID". "But we're turning it around".
