President Donald Trump on Tuesday raised concerns about the sale of plastic guns made with 3-D printers, a day after several USA states sued his administration to block online publication of designs to make weapons that security screening may not detect.

US District Judge Robert Lasnik granted plaintiffs' motion for a temporary restraining order blocking release of digital plans, and scheduled hearing for August 10. A federal judge has blocked the release of designs meant to allow people to make their own firearms using a 3-D printer.

Austin, Texas-based Defense Distributed had reached a settlement with the State Dept.in June that would allow it to make the plastic gun blueprints available for download online.

It's made entirely of plastic, except for a metal firing pin, and could easily pass through metal detectors.

"Oh, and technology for "undetectable" guns existed long before 3D printing-hence the need for the Undetectable Firearms Act", French said.

Attorneys general from eight states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit to force the Trump administration to stop the sharing of gun plans online.

Democratic senators said at a news conference that Trump has the power to stop the company from making downloadable plans available online.

In 2015, Wilson and gun rights group Second Amendment Foundation retaliated, filing suit against the State Department, which they alleged violated Wilson's right to free speech (as promised in the First Amendment).

"We should be doing everything we can to make it more hard for criminals, children, and individuals with serious mental illness to possess a gun".

"I am looking into 3-D Plastic Guns being sold to the public", the President said on Twitter, revealing that he had spoken to America's main pro-gun lobby, the National Rifle Association (NRA).

The US Supreme Court had declined to take up his case.

Meanwhile, Defense Distributed agreed to block temporarily Pennsylvania residents from downloading the plans after state officials went to federal court in Philadelphia on Sunday seeking an emergency order.

He added that it didn't "seem to make much sense!". "We can't roll over and allow this to be out in the public domain and allow it to be easy for criminals to hit "print" and make a weapon".
