A pregnant woman from Southern Alberta was served cleaning agent instead of her ordered latte at a McDonald's drive-through in Lethbridge in United States.

Sarah Douglas, 32, who is 32 weeks pregnant with her third child, ordered the McCafe beverage through the drive-thru while on the way to her son's baseball tournament. She immediately stopped to spit the toxic drink and made a decision to go back and complain. She went back to the McDonald's to tell the staff about the tainted drink and learned that the latte machine was attached to cleaning solution.

Later she contacted Alberta Health Services' Health Link and was transferred to poison control.

In a statement to the media, Dan Brown, who owns the McDonald's franchise where this happened, confirmed the mistake and said he'd contacted Douglas and apologized. "We have taken immediate action to review the proper cleaning procedures with the team and have put additional signage up as an added reminder", said Brown in a statement. "I showed him the coffee and he had asked if I wanted a new one, and I said, 'Absolutely not, this is unacceptable, ' " she told the CBC.

Douglas provided the newspaper with documents she obtained from McDonald's area brand manager. May cause an allergic skin reaction.

Although Douglas survived the ordeal unharmed, it's still eating at her, mainly because she fears that the cleaning fluid might end up in juice, soda or soft-serve ice cream and be ingested by kids. Keep out of reach of children. "Wear protective gloves/eye protection", the label of the cleaning fluid warns.

Douglas took a picture and called 8-1-1 to make sure she would be OK. But now she wants answers and change.

They added that a health inspector has visited the restaurant and is not investigating further.

"Poison control just said they wanted to monitor my symptoms and that if I was to develop shortness of breath or breathing difficulties or swallowing difficulties, to make sure that I went to the hospital", Douglas said.
