Dead fetus reportedly found on plane from Charlotte at LaGuardia Airport

Sources told WABC that American Airlines Flight 1942 arrived from Charlotte after 10:30 p.m. Monday and that a cleaning crew made the discovery inside a bathroom early Tuesday.

The plane had arrived in NY from Charlotte at 10:45 p.m. Monday and was being prepared for a morning departure.

Port Authority police officers surrounded the jet on the tarmac Tuesday after the plane was removed from the hangar, according to photos from the scene.

The plane was an Airbus A321, which can seat 220 passengers.

The fetus was reportedly between five and seven months old. The City Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on the fetus. "Please contact law enforcement for additional information".

"As we continue to learn more about this tragic and sensitive situation, we are actively cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation", the statement read.

A spokesperson for the Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, whose jurisdiction includes the airport, declined to comment.

Details will not be released until after the investigation is complete, the statement said. Officials said a short time later that the flight was delayed until 4 p.m.
