There could be some problems arising from the subject matter of the movie.

City of Lies had been set for a September 7th release, but the studio, Global Road, has pulled the film from its schedule.

So yeah, releasing the film in the midst of a lawsuit probably isn't the best of ideas.

The news comes less than month after the film's location manager sued Depp, accusing the actor of assault and battery on the set in April 2017.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that in the film, "Depp stars as disgraced LAPD Detective Russell Poole, whose biggest case - the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. - remains unsolved. In search of the truth, the two team up and unravel a growing web of institutional corruption and lies".

To make things worse, the recent James Gunn firing seems to have redrawn the rules in Holywood when it comes to personal controversies - all of which doesn't bode too well for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, or the rumours that Disney is now developing Pirates Of The Caribbean 6. I wonder if Depp attacking a random co-worker will change any of his die-hard fans' minds about the allegations that he assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard?

The year keeps rolling along, and things just get worse and worse for Johnny Depp.

The project was a weird one for Depp, who has mostly been sticking to blockbusters like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Murder on the Orient Express as of late.

City Of Lies has been shelved, for now. Perhaps the reason for the movie's delay is simply due to it needing reshoots or more time for editing.
