Mourinho warns of tough times if United fail to improve squad

Jose Mourinho has already failed in pricey moves for Leicester's Harry Maguire and Barcelona defender Yerry Mina, and while reports persist that United are still keen on Toby Alderweireld, his attentions have now turned to a fourth option.

However, it's Manchester United who have stolen a march on their rivals as Jose Mourinho looks to reinforce his defence ahead of the season's curtain raiser this weekend.

The Brazil global is a long-term target for Mourinho at Old Trafford, having previously lifted the Premier League title together in West London three years ago.

The 29-year-old also revealed that the pair have been in regular contact via text message and Willian claims Mourinho has held talks with his agent to make it clear he wants to take him to Old Trafford. "So if we don't make our team better it will be a hard season for us".
