Hurricane, 2 tropical storms are swirling off western Mexico

The remnants of the tropical cyclone are likely producing an area of tropical-storm-force winds that should gradually decrease in intensity as it rotates around the northern and northwestern portion of John during the next few hours.

The storm was centered about 1,160 miles west of the Azores and was moving north near 16 mph. A tropical storm watch was in effect for a much broader swath of coast, from Los Barilles to Todos Santos.

Hurricane John formed off of Mexico's Pacific coast on Monday, but the storm was projected to move parallel to the coast before wheeling off into the Pacific Ocean later this week, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

On Aug. 6 at 4:40 a.m. EDT (0840 UTC) NASA's Aqua satellite found coldest temperatures of strongest thunderstorms (yellow) in Tropical Storm Ileana were as cold as or colder than.

Hurricane Hector, a major storm in the Central Pacific, has weakened slightly as it continues churning closer to the islands.

This subtropical system is not expected to impact land and will remain over the open waters of the Atlantic.

The National Weather Service says Hector is expected to pass roughly 150 miles south of the Big Island on Wednesday.

Swells generated by Hector are expected to reach the southeast and east shores of the Big Island and eastern Maui later Wednesday, and produce large and unsafe surfs.

Closer to the US mainland, Hurricane John is strengthening in bathlike ocean water south of the Baja Peninsula. A trough is then forecast to take Debby on a northeasterly track afterward, but fall apart afterward.

Last week finished up with a hurricane and three disturbances in the East Pacific tropics.
