Leonard didn't directly mention Toronto or the Raptors, but did say that he was "looking forward to the next chapter in my career".

Toronto acquired Leonard guard Danny Green in a blockbuster trade on July 18 that sent DeMar DeRozan - who was the popular face of the Raptors franchise - as well as emerging centre Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round draft pick to Texas.

Leonard goes on to thank his teammates, his friends, his family, Gregg Popovich and, of course, the fans.

Leonard - who now plays for the Toronto Raptors - thanked his the Spurs organization and the San Antonio community for the successful years they had together.

THANK YOU to every one of my teammates I've played with over my seven years in the National Basketball Association.

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly.

If there's one thing Raptors fans have learned about Kawhi Leonard since last month's shocking trade, it's that he's not much of a talker.

"Through ups and downs - glad there were many more ups!" Leonard, an unrestricted free agent next summer, reportedly wasn't pleased with the move and many expect him to bolt for the Los Angeles Lakers, joining LeBron James.

Leonard, 27, had an impressive seven-year run with San Antonio with two All-NBA First Team selections, two Defensive Player of the Year awards and a championship in 2014.

The new-look Raptors will host the Boston Celtics in its season opener on October 19.
