Petition asks Trump to name LeBron James new education secretary, replacing DeVos

A group of LeBron James fans would rather see the National Basketball Association legend go to Washington, D.C., than become a Los Angeles Laker.

US President Donald Trump, who was named the sole recipient of the petition, recently mocked James on Twitter, responding to criticism from the four-time NBA MVP over the leader's stance on the National Football League anthem protests.

A newly-signed petition is calling on President Donald Trump to replace Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos with Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

The petition has been signed by almost 8,500 people as of 6 a.m. Thursday.

'Betsy DeVos was hired without ever setting foot in a public school - and she's taken every opportunity to work against the interests of the children, teachers, and families she has pledged to serve. He made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do.

James celebrated the opening of his "I Promise" public elementary school in his hometown of Akron, Ohio late in July - which will serving around 300 at-risk children and their families - providing them with free lunch, textbooks, classes, tutoring, and free bicycles. We certainly deserve better!

Although James didn't respond to Trump's tweets last week, other professional athletes did.

And Ed Krassenstein added: "LeBron James" school will help at-risk American kids succeed, without making them pay a dime. The school triggered lawsuits amid accusations of fraud.
