Aretha Franklin gravely ill

When the news broke a couple of days ago that Aretha Franklin was battling an illness from which she might not recover, her fans all across the world joined together to pay tribute in whichever way they could. He said he and his religious group held a prayer vigil outside the White House for Franklin in 2013, and she got better then. "She has earned the title as the Queen of Soul and that is how she wants to be remembered".

Aretha's longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told People magazine: 'Aretha Franklin has been the Matriarch of the Franklin family since the passing of all of her siblings.

Earlier this week, fans became concerned for the singer, after it was reported that she was "gravely ill".

"Praying for Aretha!" wrote Andy Cohen. "Music just wouldn't be same if not for Aretha Franklin", tweeted actress Jackée Harry.

"I am retiring this year", the iconic singer told a Detroit news station.

Franklin was forced to cancel scheduled concerts in March and April of this year per doctor's orders, including her gig at the legendary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé", Franklin said in a statement at the time. The 76-year-old announced plans to retire last year, saying she would perform at "some select things".

The singer announced she was retiring from touring in 2017, and her final performance took place at the Elton John AIDS Foundation benefit in NY in November.
