In an email to CNET, OnePlus gave official confirmation about the change in position of the sensor, and revealed that the feature is called Screen Unlock. The company clarified that it had initially planning to launch the in-display fingerprint scanning technology with the OnePlus 5T but the technology behind this feature was not "mature enough" to meet the quality and reliability standards that the company had established for "a fast and smooth user experience".

It was only last week that a leaked image of the OnePlus 6T's packaging revealed a major feature: fingerprint on display. OnePlus pointed out that users unlock their devices "multiple times" during the course of the day.

Screen Unlock, as confirmed by OnePlus. In addition to officially confirming the feature, OnePlus said that it originally meant to introduce the technology on the OnePlus 5T.

Aaron Rodgers: 'I'm Playing Next Week'
Rodgers demonstrated once more than having an otherworldly quarterback is more important than anything else. Man comes back and leads his team to victory despite the odds.

The company wanted to introduce the technology on the OnePlus 5T previous year, but "the technology wasn't mature to meet [OnePlus'] standards for delivering a fast and smooth user experience".

The fingerprint reader is embedded under the display and works by using the optical image sensor and an AI processor to read the fingerprint.

CNET further explains that the OnePlus 6T will be 0.45mm thicker than the predecessor, because of the extra component that goes under the display. The OnePlus 6T will also be company's first flagship smartphone to be sold in the U.S. by T-Mobile. The phone, reports said, will look more like the Oppo R17 Pro than the iPhone X, featuring a teardrop notch, a triple-lens camera system, and a fingerprint sensor under the display.
