Ceremonies Across US Honor Victims of 9/11

The president did attend a ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the site of the United 93 crash, and issued a proclamation designating Tuesday as "Patriot Day 2018".

The bell has been rung on every anniversary since 2002, when it was presented to NY by the City of London to honor those who died.

Trump noted that almost 7,000 service members have died since september 11 and - using terminology avoided by his predecessors - said they were "facing down the menace of radical Islamic terrorism".

"Please stop using the bones and ashes of our loved ones as props in your political theatre", he said. Their lives, sacrifices and deaths are worth so much more. "Never miss a chance to let those held dearest know your [love] for them".

Trump was in his Trump Tower penthouse, 4 miles (6.5 kilometers) from the World Trade Center, during the 2001 attacks.
