Verizon said it will start installations of its 5G home-broadband service on October 1, in what the company says will be the world's first 5G commercial service.

Now before you start jumping up and down in excitement and start hunting for 5G smartphones, we should caution that this is nota mobile 5G service. 5G Home service uses the next generation wireless technology to offer home internet service without a cable or fiber hookup. Additionally, Verizon will not be putting any data cap on the plan. While Verizon's 5G Home service won't be a true 5G wireless network, it will help the company as it continues to build out a faster wireless network. According to Verizon, both of these totals includes all taxes and fees, and do not require an annual contract. "We appreciate the partnership of network equipment makers, device manufacturers, software developers, and chip makers in reaching this critical milestone". Verizon's also including a free Apple TV 4K or Google Chromecast Ultra for 5G Home customers.

The carrier's 11 pre-commercial 5G trial networks - in Sacramento, Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Seattle, Washington DC, Bernardsville, Brockton, and Denver - were deployed throughout 2017.
