Warner Bros. has since issued a statement in response to the reports, adopting the classic "nothing to see here" approach while stating their relationship with Cavill is still intact.

Following the recent news that Henry Cavill has reportedly quit the role of Superman, Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has considered casting Michael B. Jordan in the role. With all of Warner Bros.'s DC movies now lined up, a Superman movie is still several years away, with the Supergirl movie being slated first.

Reports suggest that Warner Bros are now focusing on a Supergirl movie, starring a teenage version of the character, and Cavill's Superman wouldn't fit into those plans.

"Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors", a studio source told The Hollywood Reporter. Cavill was Superman starting with the Man of Steel film in 2013, Batman v. Superman and Justice League.

Word is Warner Bros is in the market for a couple of young guns to fill Aflleck and Cavill's rubber boots. It was released after a Hollywood Reporter article said Cavill's tenure as the Man of Steel appeared to be ending.

Superman fans began posting all over social media after the first reports hit, decrying Warner Bros. for putting the Man of Steel back on the shelf.

It's worth noting that other DC comics heroes that shared a screen with Cavill in the critically panned "Justice League" will continue with their characters. Rather than belong to a shared universe similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, future films are likely to focus on standalone stories, similar to "Wonder Woman", which only briefly alluded to a connection to a larger film universe. That's said to be an origin story with Supergirl as a teenager, which, if they stuck to the comic book storyline, would make Superman a baby if it's on Krypton.

He recently starred with Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible - Fallout", which is now the highest grossing installment in the series.
