Originally set to launch in 2017, Nintendo ended up having to delay the service multiple times before eventually landing on the second half of September.

It'll be free for the first week but after that it'll cost £3.49 a month, £6.99 for three months, or £17.99 for a year.

Another long requested feature, cloud saves, will become available with this new service although it appears not all games will be taking advantage of the feature.

As previous reports indicated, the Nintendo Direct presentation has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

In addition to facilitating online play, Nintendo Switch Online will include access to 20 NES games with online multiplayer components including The Legend of Zelda, Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3. We might hear about more games during the Nintendo Direct on Thursday.

Nintendo had previously revealed that the Nintendo Switch would eventually require an online subscription similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live in order to play games online. More information on all of this will be revealed tomorrow during the Nintendo Direct.

As an important aside, Nintendo Accounts will be permanently linked to Nintendo Switch user accounts after the Nintendo Switch firmware update.
