Jet Airways Passengers Share Experiences of Mid-Air Horror

"Jet Airways B737 aircraft operating flight 9W 697 of 20th Sep 2018 [Mumbai-Jaipur] had air turnback to Mumbai".

Sources told India Today TV that during the climb, the Jet Airways crew forgot to activate what is known as the "bleed switch". "As per initial information, out of 166 people on board, 30 passengers have nose bleeding, few have ear bleeding and some are complaining of headaches".

According to witnesses onboard, passengers started complaining of a severe headaches and difficulty in breathing as the airplane climbed, and shortly afterwards, some also started bleeding from their nose and ears.

In a statement posted to its Facebook page, Jet Airways confirmed that 5 passengers were taken to a hospital for medical attention after the plane landed, but did not confirm what caused the injuries. The Times reported that India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has launched a probe into the incident, and the airline said it is "extending full cooperation". "The airline is making alternative flight arrangements for guests on this flight", the statement read further.

"I was sitting on an aisle seat when suddenly air pressure in the cabin dropped and oxygen masks came down", passenger Prashant Sharma told India's PTI news agency.

Another passenger Satish Nair tweeted images of himself wearing the oxygen masks.

The five passengers - Anveshan Ray (39), Mukesh Sharma (31), Vikas Agarwal (31), Damodar Das (37) and Ankur Kala (38) - were examined by ENT specialists at the Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, a civic official said.

Some of them took to social media to show the situation on board the flight with the oxygen masks being used. Ankur Kala (38), who works for a jewellery firm and was going to Jaipur after coming to Mumbai from Bangkok, suffered nasal bleeding in the incident. As many as 30 passengers said they suffered from nose-bleed.

Aircraft cabins are pressurized to replicate conditions that our bodies are used to on the ground. I saw a passenger sitting next to me bleeding from his nose. "There was no announcement (related to the problem) from the crew".

A Jet Airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing after its pilots failed to pressurize the jet after take off.

The rescheduled flight took off at 10:15 am.

According to two senior pilots and regulatory officials, Thursday's incident could be due to human negligence as checking cabin pressure is part of standard checks carried out before operation of a flight.
