And while the storms that threaten Florida at this time of the year tend to follow a similar path toward the Caribbean, it doesn't look like the conditions are there to keep a potential Kirk 2.0 alive that long. Heading into the weekend, Tropical Storm Kirk is expected to run into some robust wind shear which is forecast to zap its strength as it transforms into a "remnant low pressure system", NHC said. The good news with this system is that most of the rain associated with it is located east of its center, mainly keeping most of the rain offshore and away from the Carolinas.

Finally, Post-Tropical Cyclone Leslie, in the central Atlantic a few hundred miles southwest of Portugal's Azores Islands, has a 90 percent chance of becoming organized again over the next five days. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area by Thursday afternoon.

Interests elsewhere in the central and northern Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of Kirk as additional warnings or watches could be issued later today.

On this track, the center of Kirk is expected to pass between 80 to 100 miles north of St. Vincent and the Grenadines between Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon.

These rains may produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides on the islands.
