The federal judge's drinking habits were under the microscope: Ford alleges Kavanaugh was visibly intoxicated during the assault, and a wealth of evidence indicates he traveled in hard-drinking social circles in high school and college.

"I started my last colliloquy by saying to Senator Klobuchar how much I respect her and what she said at the last hearing".

"When I heard the sanctimonious talk about some kind of 'political strategy, ' well, I'll give you Exhibit A: Merrick Garland, who was delayed for almost ten months", she said. How much Kavanaugh drank at the elite Jesuit school Georgetown Prep is now the subject of fierce debate.

After tempers cooled, Kavanaugh came back and apologized.

During the hours of testimony, Kavanaugh had a tense exchange with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar. "In your written testimony, you said sometimes you had too many drinks".

"Still, the problem for me is, he really didn't answer the question about if there have been incidences where he didn't partially remember what happened".

Sen. Merkley Sues Trump Over Kavanaugh Confirmation Process
The Arizona senator has said in the past that he would not be comfortable voting on Kavanaugh's nomination until Ford was heard. Democrats have called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to postpone its vote until the allegations are investigated.

NAFTA negotiations: Canada and Trump administration at impasse
But Lopez Obrador, who takes office on December 1, said the NAFTA language between Washington and Mexico City was now final. More light is likely to be shed on the enforcement of new labor standards and trade dispute settlement arrangements.

"I liked beer. I still like beer, but I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out and I never sexually assaulted anyone", Kavanaugh said.

Democrats, meanwhile, were effusive in their praise and defense of Klobuchar. "We are incredibly fortunate to have her representing us in the U.S. Senate".

That Republicans are moving Kavanaugh's confirmation process along without hearing from other witnesses, Klobuchar said, makes her think "that they are hiding something".

On Friday, Klobuchar appeared on CBS "This Morning" and remarked on those comments, saying, "If I was in his courtroom and I acted like that, he would have thrown me out". "Brett groped me and tried to take off my clothes". Now, her line of inquiry will likely be picked up by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which the Judiciary Committee asked to investigate Ford's claims in a surprising move on Friday.

The White House argued Friday that Kavanaugh's testimony about drinking was not meant to be misleading, but provided "context" about how Maryland high schoolers obtained beer. After that, Kavanaugh's nomination would head to the Senate floor for a series of votes.
