Tests came back on September 20, showing Stabile tested positive for Naegleria fowleri, an amoeba that typically occurs in warm fresh water and that had caused a rare infection. The free-living microscopic ameba infects its victims by swimming through the nose. Once the amoeba enters the nose, it travels to the brain where it causes PAM, which is usually fatal.

The disease is so rare that the likelihood of contracting it is a one-out-of-a-million-occurrence, however, the rate of survival is much lower. The organizations statistics indicate that since 1962 there have been 143 confirmed cases, of which only four people survived. Those infected usually die within about five days.

The Naegleria fowleri amoeba is a free-living amoeba found in warm freshwater ponds, lakes and rivers, which feeds on bacteria but can cause a lethal infection in humans. Very rarely has it been discovered in poorly chlorinated swimming pools and contaminated tap water.

The BSR pool has voluntarily closed its facilities so that a small CDC team can collect samples for testing.

"Preliminary testing results should be ready later this week".

Netflix is working on a choose-your-own-adventure Black Mirror episode
It's certainly attention-grabbing, and I could see the concept working on an extremely meta-level with Black Mirror . Netflix has already released a handful of episodes of choose-your-own-adventure animated programs designed for kids.

Stabile, known as "Fab", was a keen outdoors lover who had a passion for fishing, surfing and snowboarding, his obituary in the Press of Atlantic City said. He was described by his family as a passionate outdoorsman who frequently surfed, snowboarded, and fished.

The owner of the resort, Stuart E. Parsons Jr., said he will continue to comply with requests related to the investigation of Stabile's death, who died in New Jersey earlier this month after falling ill with Naegleria fowleri.

Friend and family members have created a new nonprofit to raise awareness of the amoeba, called "The Fabrizio Stabile Foundation for Naegleria Fowleri Awareness". "We hope to have results by the end of the week", a spokeswoman for the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District told the broadcaster on September 30.

The infection can not be passed from person to person and typically occurs during the summer months of July, August and September.

It causes the nervous-system infection primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) by traveling up a person's nostrils and into their brain, but can not be transmitted if a person swallows water contaminated with the bug.
