I was at the factory and the support was fantastic and the respect for Valtteri.

While Hamilton is set to be aided by Bottas for the remainder of the season, it is quite likely he will not have to rely on the Finn, having spent much of the season comfortably clear of his team-mate.

"I don't like the "now or never" approach".

Hamilton has established a strong lead, winning five of the past six races but many have been against the head with Ferrari having the stronger vehicle.

"I've given them a lot", Hamilton told Swiss newspaper Blick.

When Bottas was asked if he would have to wait for Hamilton to secure the title before winning again, he said each situation would be assessed on its individual circumstances.

The Englishman was allowed to claim a 70th career win when Valtteri Bottas was ordered to move over in Sochi - with the world champion describing it as "the strangest day" of his career. How, with 125 points still to play for, has this happened to the German driver and his team which have had a superior auto for most of the season?

"Lewis is hungry, focused and completely determined to succeed", Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said.

"I just have to accept it because of what happened earlier in the season. At too many races, we haven't been close enough".

"The way they do that is they'll stop one auto which means then I'll have to stop". Bottas started from pole and was in position for his first win of the year.

"Of course you would like to be always further, with more performance, but that is the same for everyone".

"Like some of the fans, I am definitely split [on team orders], but it has happened, it is done and dusted, and collectively as a team we still stay united".

"This is the most unusual sport in the sense that you have the drivers' and constructors' championships". "So unlike people watching football or any other sport, where everyone works towards that one goal, there's two goals here".

"Now I know, so the secret has been not to count".

He radioed in to his team to signal that Vettel had undertaking "two moves", but the Russian Grand Prix stewards ultimately saw nothing wrong with Vettel's maneuver, a decision that surprised Hamilton.

"I think I've said many times that we have a strong auto, but I don't think, against the people's opinions, that we had a dominant vehicle at any point this year", the German said. "We made progress with our cars".

"We hope that we have the same performance here and hopefully we are closer in qualifying, which matters to place the auto well to have a strong race and show that pace, because once you are behind, we don't have a lot of wheel-to-wheel racing. And naturally you enjoy it more when you come out on top".

Ferrari have enjoyed the superior machinery over Mercedes for much of the campaign, but the Italian team were a distant second to their rivals in Russian Federation last weekend.
