Mourinho pledges to turn Man United around amid sack report

Mourinho responded to United's dramatic win over Newcastle by complaining of a "manhunt" from certain sections of the media.

He never made clear why, but it's safe to say he was being sarcastic.

While takeover talks and discontent towards Mike Ashley rumble on behind the scenes, Rafael Benitez is keen to bolster his squad and The Chronicle states that the club are exploring the possibility of signing loanees Kenedy and Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis.

An embarrassed Eric Bailly took on the role of United fall guy when Mourinho hauled off the Ivory Coast center half after only 19 minutes and replaced him with Spain midfielder Juan Mata.

Speaking to the club's official website after the win, Mata said the fanbase do not "deserve everything that is going on".

The Red Devils still find themselves six points behind leaders Manchester City and Liverpool though, who both have a game in hand, and have a tough run of fixtures to come.

"I beat Liverpool at Anfield 4-0 and I was amazed to hear the stadium singing Liverpool songs".

A significant change to his routine in light of the rumours that emerged last night, Jose Mourinho addressed the situation in discussion with BT Sport in his pre-match comments.

The support is not unconditional.

According to the Mirror, Mourinho has lost the confidence of the board with "senior United sources" telling the paper that the Portuguese coach's almost two-and-a-half-years in charge will end whatever the outcome of the league game against the Magpies. Sanchez subsequently came on for Rashford in the 68th minute, two minutes before United's comeback - capped by the Chilean's 90th-minute victor - began with Mata netting from a free-kick.

Martial's definitely not helped by Mourinho's insistence on throwing on his back-up players in random moments or at times they aren't match-fit but he also has to take some responsibility for his form. At the end when you are defending crosses against seven players that are so big, it's not easy. Only Cardiff, Huddersfield and Fulham have let in more goals this season in the top flight.

Benitez has hope that they can climb the table, as they did last season where they rose to finish tenth.
