Jose Mourinho remains in charge of Manchester United, despite the rumours which circulated on Friday. He spent all summer groaning about a lack of support in the transfer market, then talked about how he had overachieved with last year's squad, one of the most expensive ever put together. It takes time for all managers at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho has shrugged off pressure following recent poor form to demand two new signings in January. Encouraged by Gary Neville's Friday night rant, for example, Saturday saw the first significant chants against the United board in the form of "Jose's right, the board are s--".

After the match, I asked Mourinho about his reaction to the atmosphere.

Mourinho, appointed United manager in May 2016, had been the subject of intense speculation in the build-up to the game with one UK newspaper reporting he faced the sack regardless of the result.

"And he moves two more midfielders, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, into deeper positions".

Finding a reliable centre-back partnership has proved hard for Mourinho, with his own signings Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof failing to impress. If United conceded twice at home to Newcastle, imagine what will happen when they take on Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City over the coming weeks.

Shearer is simply telling it how it is: a 3-2 win over Newcastle has merely papered over the cracks. Their greatest moment of a disappointing 2018 came at the Etihad, when they'd also been 2-0 down at half-time, only to triumph 3-2.

Should Jose Mourinho still be sacked, despite the win over Newcastle? Have your say below.
