The former SC governor was chosen by President Trump soon after his inauguration and confirmed to serve as United Nations ambassador just four-days after he took office.

Axios reported that Haley and Trump discussed her resignation last week, when she visited the White House.

Dina Powell served in the first year of the Trump administration as the Deputy National Security Adviser. Although she occasionally appeared out of sync with Trump, particularly in her hardline stance on Russian Federation, she survived his mercurial temperament for almost two years despite media speculation that he was not impressed with her and her frequent expressions of dissent.

The daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley had always been seen as a rising star in the Republican Party which has eagerly sought female and ethnic minorities to broaden the appeal beyond its traditional white demographic. He said that Haley could come back to the administration in +any capacity.

"I'm confident that we will be able to continue to build on the strong foundation she solidified in her role as United Nations ambassador", Gardner said. "Countries may not like what we do, but they respect what we do", Haley said. "And I do think that sometimes it's good to rotate in other people who can put that same energy and power into it", Haley said.

New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez says in a statement he's "deeply concerned about the leadership vacuum" that will be created by Haley's departure. Elected as the state's first female governor in 2010, she was in her second four-year term when Trump picked her. Mr Trump subsequently tweeted that "the people of SC are embarrassed by Nikki Haley". She was re-elected on November 4, 2014. That alliance, in addition to her Goldman credentials and her time working for Bush, led her to being viewed skeptically by some in Trump's base and by nationalist forces in the White House that had been led by former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
