Kavanaugh, who came under fire after being accused of alleged sexual assault against Christine Blasey Ford and several other women, promised to diversify the ranks by hiring more women as clerks if he became a justice. He added that Murkowski had previously voted for Justice Neil Gorsuch and Republican nominees to lower courts, and that the pro-abortion lawmaker enjoys "very good standing" in the Senate Republican Conference. Even the reporter who broke the story said it wasn't me or my staff.

Baldwin pointed to one plan sold in her state that she said does not cover hospital care on a Friday or Saturday.

Republican Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado insisted it was actually the Democrats who had done themselves no favours with the vote.

McConnell disagreed with President Donald Trump's prediction that she will "never recover" from her vote, demonstrating once again that as the leader of a supposed conservative Republican party, he is out of step with rank-and-file conservatives.

He's expecting a "relatively lively" lame duck session after the election and did not shy away from a possible federal government shutdown over funding for Trump's border wall.

The president and his fellow Republicans are hoping the confirmation of the 53-year-old conservative jurist will energize their supporters in the midterm voting when political control of Congress is at stake.

Kavanaugh was confirmed to the high court that same day after a contentious nomination process that included allegations of sexual misconduct dating back to his days as a high school and college student.

So possibly, the threat of Court-packing by Democrats could discourage Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and other far-right justices from making really radical decisions. But he says the controversy over Kavanaugh could end up helping Republicans by generating more enthusiasm among GOP voters who feel he was mistreated. Feinstein denied her office was the source of the leak.

The complaints landed with Roberts because of his role as chief justice of the United States, not because Kavanaugh is now a member of the Supreme Court.

But according to a new survey from Rasmussen Reports, Republican voters are furious about the salacious, unfounded accusations lobbed at Kavanaugh and are more likely to vote in the upcoming midterm elections as a result. Republicans slammed Clinton for her statement, especially as it came after Republicans were "shot, stabbed, doxxed, beaten, mailed powder, run out of restaurants, and sent death threats", in the age of the Trump administration.

Collins cited the lack of protections for those with pre-existing conditions in a statement explaining her vote.
