Cyclone 'Titli' uproots trees, damages houses; communication hit

Very severe cyclonic storm Titli which is being referred to as a Category 2 hurricane, made landfall in Odisha's Gopalpur on Thursday with surface winds reaching 126 kmph, the Met said.

ANI posted videos and visuals of the cyclone battering the Vajrapu Kotturu mandal in the district.

The districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam were all affected and a total of eight people were reported dead across the state.

He also directed the departments concerned to ensure proper sanitation measures and power supply at these shelters.

As a result, many areas including Aska and Purushottampur towns in Ganjam district have remained marooned under water.

Eight people were killed in different storm-related incidents.

There has so far been no report of any damage to property or blockage of road or rail movement in West Bengal owing to "Titli".
