The C.P.H.is observing Mental Health Week under the theme "Young People in Mental Health, in a Changing World" and nurse Morris-Willis said, sensitising the youth on the issue of mental health is critical.

Depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and drug use are all of concern when it comes to young people, with suicide being the second leading cause of death among people aged between 15 and 29. It covers a broad range of mental health issues, including depression, addiction, bereavement, bullying, suicide and self-harm.

"The time has come for us all, collectively, to tackle the causes and symptoms of mental illness, and provide care for those who suffer from it", says Gaga.

The public spending watchdog also warned that the number of young people with a mental health condition is likely to be higher than previously estimated, which will make government ambitions harder to realise.

She was speaking at a program related to the World Health Day here, organised by the Augosh Trust and Essa Laboratories.

"Half of mental disorders begin before the age of 14 and indeed researchers have noted similar types of disorders are being reported across cultures and across languages", he said.

The children's commissioner welcomed Mrs May's announcement, but added: 'We need to see urgent action and implementation now.

Young people continue to be judged on academic performance with little regard for their mental health. Psychosocial support can be provided in schools and other community settings and, of course, training for health workers to enable them to detect and manage mental health disorders can be put in place, improved or expanded.

RFDS chief executive Martin Laverty said the service was continually expanding based on need and now played an important role in the provision of mental health services to remote and rural Australians.

"But we know that, for example, one in three Canadians with a mental health condition get help, which means two out of three don't".

Athletes and staff will have access to a mental health screening programme when they join and leave the elite set-up. I used to think this was my biggest battle, and personally it is.

Art student Jacqueline Goodall has spoken out about her own mental health challenges.

"We can help them to make sense of what's making them anxious, because they don't always see what that is".
