These galaxies got its name because of the regions of active formation of young blue stars, which are usually located near their cores.

Here, nestled among a sea of galaxies, is a clear and unmistakable smiley face - two bright blobs suspended above a streak of light. The lower, arc-shaped galaxy has the characteristic shape of a galaxy that has been gravitationally lensed - its light has passed near a massive object en route to us, causing it to become distorted and stretched out of shape.

Sometimes they see newborn stars, and other times they see huge shadows, but this newly-captured image from Hubble shows something you'd probably never expect to see in the depths of space: a face smiling back.

The smiling face is located in the SDSS group of galaxies J0952+3434 and was captured with the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3. These stellar nurseries usually grow unstable and will later collapse under gravity that will, in turn, emerge as the seeds that will grow into new stars. The star that gave rise to a unique cosmic phenomenon, is in the nebula Serpen at the distance of approximately 1300 light years from Earth. It's important to study stellar formation within different galaxies to gain a richer context, which is why Hubble had its gaze fixed on a galaxy cluster.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been in space, looking across the universe for almost 30 years.

It is named after famed astronomer Edwin Hubble who was born in Missouri in 1889.

Originally required to last 15 years, Hubble has now been at the forefront of scientific discovery for more than 28 years.
