Woolsey Fire: California blaze advances on Malibu

Powerful winds caused the Camp Fire to spread quickly, filling the sky with toxic smoke that could be seen from San Francisco.

Highway 101 is now open in both directions in Ventura County, but is closed farther south in Los Angeles County due to the Woolsey Fire burning near the border between the two counties. Malibu has about 13,000 residents and lies along 21 miles (34 kilometres) of coast at the southern foot of the mountain range.

Los Angeles County Deputy Fire Chief Dave Richardson says 45,000 people in Ventura County and 43,000 more in Los Angeles County were ordered to evacuate overnight.

Since the Hill Fire began Thursday, it has burned at least 6,000 acres.

However there were no immediate reports of deaths or serious injuries.

"It was insane, because when we were sitting in traffic people were panicking", she said.

Evacuations in Hidden Hills and all portions in the City of Los Angeles have been revised from mandatory to voluntary, the Fire Department stated. According to the Los Angeles Times, the fire has grown to 8,000 acres as is burning through Oak Park into Agoura Hills. "I pray everyone is safe", she on wrote Instagram along with thanks for the responding firefighters and requests for prayers for Calabasas.
