It is understood that Fabregas will move to Monaco without a fee for now, as Chelsea will be paid via bonuses depending on the midfield maestro's performances.

Fabregas won two league titles with Chelsea and one Spanish La Liga crown during his 2011-14 stint at Barcelona.

And on the £10m switch, new No.44 Fabregas told Monaco's official website: "It is a great pleasure to join AS Monaco, a new project for me". Have your say in the comment section below.

He has subsequently been reunited with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry, now manager at the Stade Louis II.

'Michy? I know him, we rubbed shoulders with Belgium, he is a player who can be interesting, ' Henry said. "I am very excited", he added.

The 31-year-old Fabregas struggled to earn regular first-team action with the Blues this season and had made just six appearances in the Premier League this season prior to his departure.

The former Marseille and Roma player was expected to put pen to paper on a move from Turkish club Antalyaspor, but Monaco announced earlier on Friday that he had failed a medical due to a calf problem.

Fabregas scored 22 goals for the London club in 198 appearances.

However, Maurizio Sarri's arrival ahead of 2018-2019 effectively spelled the end of Fabregas's Chelsea career, as the Italian brought in his former Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who instantly took the Spaniard's position.

To the surprise of many Fabregas joined Chelsea in 2014.

"I'm looking forward to starting, we have a great match to play in Marseille on Sunday".

"But we are convinced that his experience at the highest level will bring a lot to our players on and off the field".
