Ocasio-Cortez Poised to Join Banking Panel

The New York Republican Party has since slammed Ocasio-Cortez as a hypocrite, saying the violation is "not a good look" for someone who claims to be a champion for workers.

It was a given that the overwhelming majority of Republicans on the Hill would balk at Ocasio-Cortez's politics and her willingness to call the President out as a racist.

Ocasio-Cortez, who at 29 became the youngest woman to be sworn into Congress, had the flawless millennial four-word response to the criticism: "New party, who dis?"

The Politico report follows criticism from high profile former members of Congress like Democrat Claire McCaskill, a former senator from Missouri.

House Democrats were also annoyed that Ocasio-Cortez sought a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee - on which veteran lawmakers typically serve - with a grassroots campaign to pressure Speaker Nancy Pelosi to add her to the panel, Politico reported, adding that Ocasio-Cortez's office denied being behind the effort.

Some House Democrats aren't convinced.

"Washington is a political animal where a lot of the work that you want to accomplish depends on relationships within the Democratic Caucus", Velázquez said.

"I think she needs to give herself an opportunity to know her colleagues and to give herself a sense of the chemistry of the body before passing judgment on anyone or anything", said Representative Yvette Clarke (D., N.Y.). So it will be interesting to see if she becomes another champion for marijuana in Congress the same way she's taking on climate change, income inequality and other issues. Never one to shy away from conversations about her politics, Ocasio-Cortez responded to a tweet of the Politico report with a choice tweet of her own...a Watchmen quote.

"People are going to have to start paying their fair share of taxes", she said.
