Sarah Thomas will become first woman to officiate an National Football League playoff game

Making history is nothing new for Thomas.

According to Football Zebras, Thomas will be the down judge in Sunday afternoon's AFC Divisional Round playoff game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers, marking the first postseason assignment in her career and the first time the league will feature a female official in a playoff game.

Sarah Thomas was the first woman to referee a college football bowl game, and the first full-time female referee in the NFL, and she has now made further history by becoming the first woman to referee an NFL playoff game. "So tucking my hair, I blend in and I'm just another official".

Thomas is now in her fourth season in the role.

Terri Valentini, who was the NFL's first female replay official, also was given her first postseason gig - working the Kansas City Chiefs' victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

She said she was honored to be considered a "trailblazer" for female officials.

Hopefully, Thomas and Valentini will be the trailblazers for more future female National Football League officials. "Field presence is what they talk about", she said in an interview with SB Nation.
