The White House did not immediately respond to INSIDER's request for comment.

The Post also reported that Trump's alleged concealment has led to there being no detailed record - even classified accounts - of Trump's meeting with the Russian leader at five different locations over the past two years.

Trump has made a number of decisions during his time as president that have benefitted Putin whilst simultaneously confounding his closest officials and advisors. They cited Comey's handling of the probe into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, a controversy that many believe helped Trump defeat the Democratic nominee in the 2016 presidential election.

Citing current and former US officials, the report claims that after a 2017 meeting between the two heads of state in Germany, Trump also instructed the translator not to disclose any details of what transpired with administration officials.

Trump responded to the report Saturday during a telephone interview broadcast on Fox News Channel after host Jeanine Pirro, who is also a personal friend of the president, asked whether he is now or has ever worked for Russian Federation.

The president tweeted the remark after taking aim at the "Failing New York Times" and "the corrupt former leaders of the Federal Bureau of Investigation", who reportedly opened a probe to find out if Trump was "secretly working on behalf of Russia" after he fired director James Comey in 2017.

Trump denied on Fox News that he was keeping anything under wraps on his face-to-face meetings with Putin.

He added: "Anybody could have listened to that meeting, that meeting is up for grabs". Eventually, Trump claimed he has "been FAR tougher with Russia.maybe than any other President".

Sanders called the report "absurd".

"I would. I don't care", Trump said when asked if he would divulge details from the meetings.

In the tweets, Trump insulted former FBI Director Comey, and claimed that the probe was a partisan bid to discredit him.

Trump also took aim at an earlier story in The New York Times stating that the FBI launched a previously undisclosed counterintelligence investigation to determine whether he posed a national security threat, at the same time that it opened a criminal probe into possible obstruction of justice.

No evidence has publicly emerged in the 20 months since Comey was sacked that indicate Trump is a secret agent, or that he engaged in a criminal conspiracy with the Russian government.

"I do think it's curious that throughout that whole summer when these investigations started, you have Vladimir Putin policies nearly being parroted by Donald Trump", he said on CNN's State of the Union.
