Google Pixel is now the United States' fastest-growing smartphone brand

As per the recent commit changes spotted in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Gerrit, the Pixel 4 might offer true dual SIM functionality that will allow users to choose which SIM they want to utilize for handling calls and messages.

The commit in question adds a "property value" in Android Q that could differentiate between devices with dual SIM mode and those that don't. "In general, some devices will be single SIM, even if they contain two SIM cards, as the Pixel 2018 case and that is a valid configuration". It doesn't have two main cameras nor does use the full extent of dual SIM capabilities. We know that the Google Pixel 3 and its predecessor Pixel 2 have a regular SIM slot and an eSIM, but the user cannot use the physical SIM network and the eSIM network simultaneously even though the user can allocate the eSIM to connect to many supported carriers.

It's being said that the Pixel 4 will get Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA) functionality. Also available in the latest iPhones and many dual SIM Android smartphones, this basically means that the other SIM can receive calls or texts so long as the primary SIM slot isn't actively being used for the same objective. You aren't required to purchase two identical phones to take advantage of the promotion, any combination of Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL phones will work regardless of their storage capacity.

Not much is known about the device for now (a few modest hardware upgrades are probably inevitable), but courtesy of a report from XDA Developers, we now know that it could ship with improved support for dual SIM cards.

The Googler seems to suggest that this year's Pixel phones, which will run on Android Q, of course, will have DSDS dual SIM functionality. XDA is guessing that the Pixel 4 will support Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS), which is certainly a logical conclusion. Unfortunately, older Pixel models likely won't see this feature trickle down through software updates.
