"Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing something for Motown?". "Motown was music for everybody".

One person suggested the role should be handed to an artist like Beyonce or Kelly Rowland. "I could cry. It's such a good moment", the 49-year-old singer, who always looks fantastic, shared Sunday night with Entertainment Tonight after her appearance, as she explained that she grew up listening to those classic hits. J.Lo had previously performed an homage to Celia Cruz, another black performer, at the American Music Awards in 2013; at that time, many felt she should have passed the opportunity on to a black Latina.

Lopez didn't let the criticism of her performance faze her.

Some online questioned why a black artist wasn't chosen instead of Lopez, but she received support from Smokey Robinson, who joined her in a duet to perform "My Girl", a song he co-wrote.

"I think anyone who is upset is stupid", he told Variety before the Grammy Awards ceremony. "You can't tell people what they can and can't do - what they should sing or not sing". "You gotta do what's in your heart".

Her performance comes days ahead of Motown's tribute concert to celebrate the label's 60th anniversary. "We were The Temptations and we [would] just sing with her and I feel it's a dream come true". According to Us Weekly, viewers watching the awards show from the comfort of their homes were shown a close-up of Rodriguez appearing stunned during Lopez's performance. "Motown was music for everybody". In addition to Robinson and Ne-Yo, Lopez got a little help from her friend Alicia Keys during the tribute, too.

Motown fans who were disappointed with Sunday's tribute might be more pleased with the Recording Academy's upcoming celebration of Motown.
