Mickelson holds off Casey to win Pebble Beach Pro

The steam coming off his head in the Sunday night gloaming at Pebble Beach was undoubtedly due to the frigid air that permeated the tournament, although few would be surprised if Phil Mickelson really was seething over the idea that he wouldn't be allowed to finish despite two holes to play in enveloping darkness.

On Monday, he matched Mark O'Meara's record of five Pebble Beach Pro-Am victories, adding to his previous successes in 1998, 2005, 2007 and 2012.

Casey resumed with a three-foot par putt at the 16th hole on Monday, while Mickelson had already completed the hole.

I also think Casey's request to play the final two holes on Monday morning was the right one if fading light meant that it would be impossible to conclude on Sunday evening.

'Paul and I both went to Arizona State, ' Mickelson said.

Currently, Woods leads the PGA Tour with a 68.42 scoring average in the third round, and average that ranges from 46th to 133rd in the other three rounds. The greens were beat up.

"It has been a treat this week", Casey said.

Veterans Affairs Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould resigns from cabinet
And he called Wilson-Raybould's resignation "a significant step backwards in our long-standing efforts to advance reconciliation". Her resignation could trigger another cabinet shuffle and is likely to cast a long shadow over the upcoming election campaign.

"Sometimes I get in my own bubble", Mickelson said.

Casey at least birdied the 18th for a 71 to finish alone in second, the difference of $152,000. A terrible tee-shot was followed by a chip that failed to find the green and a third that wasn't much better and after a fast start, which had seen him birdie the first two holes and three of the first five, and following a run of 11 straight pars, the 38-year-old Aussie missed his bogey attempt and tapped in for a double-bogey five.

Mickelson won on American soil for the first time since the Phoenix Open in 2013. Mickelson marked his ball all week with a silver coin given to him by his grandfather, Al Santos, one of the original caddies at Pebble Beach in 1919. "I need to do something special". It also moved him up 12 spots in the world rankings to No. 17 - one spot higher than he reached with last year's win at the WGC-Mexico Championship and his best world ranking since he was 16th in November 2016. He closed with a 65 for a 10-under-par 278 total.

For years, Mickelson, 48, has rebuffed talk of his age, choosing to focus on aspects that encouraged him going forward even through a four-year stretch without a victory.

"The bottom line is I have to do well between now and then but I so want to be there", said McDowell who is 246th in the world and not yet qualified for the Masters or the US PGA.

"The rough will be so different and the greens so firm it will be a whole different golf course but I'll deal with that in six months".
