Per THR, the film "will follow the escape of a kidnapped man (Paul's Jesse) and his quest for freedom". No details were provided on when theBreaking Bad sequel will premiere, and AMC and Netflix did not provide comment on the movie. A 2014 analysis pegged Breaking Bad as the most binge-watched show of all time, and in 2016, Netflix named the series among those binged the most quickly after analyzing over 100 TV series across its service in more than 190 countries.

"For Netflix and AMC to share the Breaking Bad followup is fitting as the two outlets share the credit for the success of the original series", the report reads.

Variety has confirmed with sources that the feature length follow-up to the critically-acclaimed AMC series will stream on Netflix prior to airing on the cable network. Gilligan acknowledged the streamer's contribution in his acceptance speech for the series' first best drama series Emmy win in 2013. "Television has changed a lot in six years [since Breaking Bad premiered]", he told reporters. "Not only are we standing up here, I don't think our show would have even lasted beyond Season 2". "I can say and announce tonight, in front of your audience - exclusive announcement - that I can confirm that there is a Breaking Bad movie". As we previously reported, it is written and directed by Breaking Bad creator/executive producer Gilligan, who also co-created and executive produces AMC prequel series Better Call Saul.

So far, neither Bryan Cranston (Walter White) or Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) have been confirmed to be returning for the new movie, although at least one of them appears to be a shoo-in. The streamer also gave one of its original film productions, Roma, a rare extended theatrical run; the film is now a front-runner for this month's Best Picture award at the Academy Awards.
