Mauro Icardi has been stripped of the Inter Milan captaincy in favour of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic amid speculation the Argentina forward is set to leave the club, the Italian outfit announced on Wednesday.

The club tweeted: "Samir Handanovic is the new Inter captain".

Icardi's future with the club has been in doubt in recent weeks given uncertainty over whether he'll sign an extension to his current contract, which expires in 2021.

'He was called up for Vienna but he did not want to be there.

Spalletti also reacted angrily to Nara's latest remarks and he spoke with the club's new general manager Beppe Marotta - who has already taken a heavy-handed approach by suspending Radja Nainggolan for turning up late for training last month - on Tuesday to discuss the issue, which was starting to cause disturbances within the team.

It comes amid hard contract renewal talks with the Argentine.

He said The Cosby Show star rinses off his prison food in a cup of water before every meal to reduce his salt intake. As for all other general population prisoners, Cosby must be accounted for in his cell seven times each day.

The decision was taken by head coach Luciano Spalletti and the club, and it was also confirmed on Wednesday that Icardi would not travel with the rest of the squad to Austria to take on SK Rapid Wien in the Europa League.

"The things going on around Icardi have disturbed us, both him and the team which he used to captain".

Spalletti had after the game demanded a swift conclusion to the contract negotiations.

Despite netting nine goals in the first 13 Serie A matches of the season, Icardi is goalless in the last seven games, which is his longest drought since joining the club, and Inter fear that this contract stand-off is beginning to impact his performances on the pitch. He is quoted by Football Italia as saying: "I have not created any problems for Icardi".

'He needs to free himself from the talk that is around him.
