The U.S.is issuing an emergency order Wednesday grounding all Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 aircraft "effective immediately", in the wake of the crash of an Ethiopian Airliner that killed 157 people, President Donald Trump said.

The U.S. airlines with 737 Max planes in their fleets are American Airlines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, which has the world's largest 737 Max fleet with 34 jets.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) cited new satellite data and evidence from the scene of Sunday's crash near Addis Ababa for its decision to ground the planes.

"The FAA is ordering the temporary grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated by USA airlines or in US territory", the FAA said in a statement.

He added that his administration is also working closely with Boeing and other countries on the matter.
