Carlson described the contestant, who famously fumbled when answering her 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant question, as "a wounded gazelle, separated from the herd" and suggested that Mario Lopez, the show's host, had slept with the teen.

At one point in the audio clip, Tucker claims the teen would "probably be a good wife".

In 2015, Upton told NY magazine that she became "very, very depressed" after her life became a viral punchline.

After the initial audio release, Carlson refused to apologize or, as he put it, "express the usual ritual contrition". "I was very, very depressed", she said.

Several companies have pulled advertising from Carlson's show, according to Bloomberg News.

Carlson has been under fire since Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog group, released audio from Carlson's appearances on the "Bubba the Love Sponge" radio program from 2006 and 2011.

On Tuesday, The Intercept published a new recording of Carlson talking about Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch. Laura, you. Me. Me, Laura, you.

After the first round - which featured Carlson's suggestions that rape shield laws were "totally unfair", that women were "extremely primitive" and that he would "love" a scenario involving young girls experimenting sexually - Carlson issued a defiant statement to The Washington Post. "Toughness is a rare quality in a TV network and we are grateful for that".

"Media Matters caught me saying something naughty on a radio show more than a decade ago", he said.

"We know there is a lot of noise out there, but the voice of a few shouldn't prevent you from marketing your brands to millions of consumers who actually buy your products and services", Marianne Gambelli, the network's head of advertising, said at a presentation to sponsors, per the Los Angeles Times.

In other recordings released since Sunday, Carlson joked about child rape and made a number of racist comments, including saying Iraqis were "semiliterate primitive monkeys", Rolling Stone reports.

Fox News has yet to comment. "But we will never bow to the mob, ever", Carlson said.
