Pained to hear about the FOB incident near TOI building in Mumbai.

Five patients who were declared dead by hospitals were identified as - Apoorva Prabhu (35), Ranjana Tambe (40), Zahid Khan (32), Bhakti Shinde (40) and Tapendra Singh (35).

Prabhu and Tambe were the staff of the G T Hospital.

Amid tragic scenes, some people were seen taking selfies with the debris of the bridge in the background. At least 2 among the injured are stated toe be in critical condition. Commuters have been asked to use alternate routes.

Meanwhile, the death toll has climbed to 5, whereas, 36 others are reported to be injured.

An audit of the bridge's safety was carried out previous year, said Maharashtra state Education Minister Vinod Tawde.

When contacted, the municipal commissioner and additional municipal commissioner were unavailable for comments.The bridge was constructed by BMC in 1988.

In January this year, BMC eventually sanctioned repairs of more than 50 bridges, flyovers, FOBs and skywalks by spending Rs 65 crore.

The reports regarding casualties are yet to be confirmed. "Railway doctors and personnel are cooperating with BMC in relief and rescue operations", the Ministry of Railways added. Reportedly, the bridge that remains will be demolished overnight. Travel via P.Dmello Road or Kalbadevi Marg. Fire tenders have been called and rescue operation is underway.
