Nadal, Federer cruise into quarters at Indian Wells

Roger Federer says British No 1 Kyle Edmund has what it takes to achieve big results following their first-ever meeting at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Earlier on a sunny and windy Wednesday, world No.2 Nadal dropped his serve once in a 6-3 6-4 win over qualifier Filip Krajinovic.

"Probably played a little bit worse today than yesterday", Nadal said of his performance. "I hope I can get there, but I am not going to underestimate Hurkacz".

Nadal will take on either eighth-seeded American John Isner or 12th-seeded Russian Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals, trying to stay on track for a possible blockbuster semi-final with five-time Indian Wells champion Roger Federer.

Federer won 6-4, 6-4 in a match that saw his Polish opponent get his set of chances in the second set that he failed to capitalise.

Kecmanovic, ranked 130th in the world, had taken the first set against Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4 when the 74th-ranked Japanese retired because of injury.

Nadal, last victorious at Indian Wells in 2013, was able to cruise into this year's quarters, where he will meet the victor of John Isner's match against Karen Khachanov.

Dominic Thiem defeated Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-3 and will play Gael Monfils, a 6-0, 6-2 victor of the late match against Philipp Kohlschreiber.
