The BCCI had on February 28 told the apex court that the life ban imposed on Sreesanth was "fully sustainable in law" as he had "tried to influence" a match.

Despite the same, the BCCI had declined to reverse its disciplinary committee order against Sreesanth, which it asserted was passed on the basis of evidence.

Sreesanth gained a lot of fans with the reality show and seems like the love and prayers of thousands of his fans have been heard as supreme court have cancelled the ban that BCCI have imposed on him. Khurshid argued that Sreesanth should have been penalised with a five-year ban at the most for not reporting the approach made by bookies, an offence under the BCCI's code of conduct. It should be also noted that the court rejected Sreesanth's request that he should not be punished by any means, as he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case.

The Delhi Police had arrested Sreesanth, along with cricketers Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, and others on charges of spot-fixing. However, on appeal, a division bench of the High Court had restored the BCCI ban, leading to the current appeal in Supreme Court. In its judgment, the court points out that the BCCI has refused to lift the ban despite a Delhi sessions court verdict discharging Sreesanth from a crime registered in connection with the spot-fixing in 2015.

"I can't play club cricket in England at the moment as I have not played first-class cricket for six years now". On September 13, 2013, BCCI was found Sreesanth guilty on all the three counts - corruption, betting and bringing disrepute to the game - and imposed the lifetime ban on him.
