The fortuitous moment arrived in the first inning of the Orioles-Red Sox game on Saturday.

Prior to Davis' long-awaited two-run single, the Orioles' infielder carried the longest hitless streak by a position player in Major League Baseball history, a burden that was previously shouldered by utility player Eugenio Vélez in 2011.

Last season Davis, 33, hit.168/.243/.296 with 16 home runs and 192 strikeouts in 522 plate appearances.

The hit extended the Orioles' lead to 6-1 over the Red Sox.

For Davis, it was the slugger's first home run since August 24. As an added bonus, the single drove in two runs.

Baltimore will need Davis to find his groove again at the plate, especially since he still has three seasons left on his $161 million deal. Davis now has one hit in his last 55 at-bats.

Out of all the great storylines to follow this MLB season, the biggest story taking the league by storm is the ongoing struggles for Chris Davis.

Given how poorly Davis started the season, his recent stretch can be considered a hot streak. It's not much, but it's a start. The Orioles may have won Monday's game, but no one expects the team to be good in 2019. If nothing else, he gives casual fans a reason to care about the Orioles, and that's not an easy task.
