The Korean septet has built a fan base that's broad (its videos are viewed many hundreds of millions of times each), deep (its fans tend to be intensely devoted, especially on social media) and fully worldwide (its new record, Map of the Soul: Persona, is nearly certain to top the US album charts this week).

The 24-hour YouTube streaming record, which had just recently (about a week ago) fallen into the hands of K-pop outfit BLACKPINK with 56.7 million views on their "Kill This Love" music video.

Interestingly, the last few months have seen YouTube's 24-hour viewing record smashed more times than avocado in a trendy café, with Ariana Grande setting a record of 50.3 million views back in December, in turn dethroning BTS" "Idol' as the record-holder.
